Director, Content Marketing Strategy

Shaw Search Partners is proud to lead the retained search for a Lead Director of Content Marketing Strategy with an innovative Fortune 5 company. 

The strategy team drives the strategic roadmap, prioritization, and execution of marketing strategies, campaigns, and digital touchpoints that deepen relationships with our customers. We are looking for a Director of Content Marketing Strategy to help lay the foundation for step-change growth for our ecommerce business & digital properties at large. 

You will help build a new content marketing strategy from the ground up. Specifically, you will help build a robust content marketing capability within this organization that will power future digital & customer growth, and they will lead the framing of our content marketing goals, approach, and measurement that drive increases in brand equity, awareness, consideration, traffic, and conversion/retention across digital properties. The role is well-suited for a data-savvy, creative, and strategic marketing leader who thrives in fast moving, entrepreneurial environment, and is looking to make a major impact at a Fortune 5 company. 

Responsibilities:

  • Owning soup-to-nuts content marketing strategy, including the strategic roadmap development, operating model definition, identification of needed technology, content calendar creation, and definition of major KPIs

  • Crafting a content strategy that educates customers, engages them in our community, increase brand affinity, conversion, and traffic, and ultimately builds confidence in and preference for the organization as their trusted partner in health

  • Building strong collaborative relationships across different business units including analytics, SEO, Product, PR, creative, and external agencies and business teams during fast paced delivery cycles, and ultimately managing the delivery of a content calendar and publishing of regular content

  • Driving strategic vision for what a broader content strategy capability should look like, including defining a mixture of internal, external, and agency partnerships; working to inform the creative vision and voice of the organization’s brand across the content calendar

  • Spearheading the identification, development, and deployment of in-house content creation, as well as sourcing and managing external content partnerships

  • Charting a learning agenda for content marketing, with a particular focus on driving measurement and highlighting the quantitative impact of content on core KPIs; in partnership with analytics, frame up a robust, quantitative measurement approach to directly tie content to end business outcomes (financial and brand metrics)

  • Painting a picture of the role of content marketing and evangelizing the team’s accomplishments with senior executives, keeping a finger on the pulse of changing priorities within overall enterprise to further orient the team’s direction

  • Bringing excellence in thought leadership around content development, engagement practices, measurement and process

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8-10+ years of well-rounded marketing and/or strategy experience, with a demonstrated focus on digital & analytical marketing; open to candidates with a background from consulting, digital media, digital marketing, marketing agency, brand and/or finance.

  • A mixture of digital, lifecycle, loyalty, and/or omnichannel marketing experience 

  • High degree of data-savviness – able to craft narratives and back them up using data, as well as market size new opportunities. 

  • Experience in channels that are critical to a successful content strategy, including but not limited to video, email, affiliate, SEO, influence, third party publisher partnerships

  • Expert-level ability to crystallize ambiguous business scenarios into clear use cases, problem statements and business impact

  • Experience working directly with data scientists, product developers, and analysts to quantify impact and drive content excellence 

  • A creative spirit, creative judgment, and an innate curiosity, a willingness to craft structure from ambiguity, and a keen understand on the role of the role data plays in content marketing

  • High degree of confidence in building and leading project teams in a matrix environment, managing cross functional teams, including working with creative, analytics, and digital merchandising 

  • Expert-level communication skills & executive present, with the ability to engage the enterprise across multiple specializations with analytically-backed, compelling stories.

  • Significant experience managing external agency or cross-functional partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the retail, ecommerce, healthcare, or technology sectors preferred, though open to other industries

  • Significant experience on content marketing strategy and content development is desirable (5+ years of content marketing experience)

  • Experience ideating, concepting, and building content calendars & campaigns aimed at driving full-funnel impact

  • Brand marketing experience a plus.

  • Baseline comfort level and familiarity with content marketing partnerships & content management platform, such as but not limited to Contently, HubSpot, Sprinklr, Contentful, Adobe Experience manage, etc; ability to help in identifying and helping scope potential new content technologies 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred. Ideally, an MBA.
